Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT) was founded in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still. He believed everything necessary for human health was contained within the body. Still proposed disease occurred because the body’s systems were altered by a structural disturbance impeding the body’s innate ability to heal. He went on to create a method of focused assessment and treatment of these structural disturbances, allowing the body to do what it does naturally… live.

Practitioners trained in OMT use a gentle hands-on approach to treat the body as a functional whole and help restore circulatory and neuromuscular systems by examining the intimate relationship between structure and function. Treatments are not focused specifically on symptoms, but on the cause of these symptoms. Because many parts of the body may be involved, practitioners learn to address issues in many systems including musculoskeletal, myofascial, craniosacral, fluidic and visceral.

After reviewing a patient’s medical history, osteopathic practitioners use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology along with precise, gentle palpation to determine the root cause of a symptom. A treatment plan is formulated and executed using a combination of gentle, hands-on techniques designed to remove strain from one or many systems.

From a young age, I aspired to support wellness in others. After graduating with a bachelor’s in Kinesiology, I began searching for a means to provide that support. It was then that I stumbled upon osteopathic manual therapy. Through five years of hands-on training and two years of research at the Canadian School of Osteopathic Manual Practice, I learned to encourage harmony, resonance and well-being in the human body. My education also taught me to continue learning. Through my practice, I am constantly inspired to delve deeper into the complex workings of the human being.

As a healer, I look for harmony. I aim to create and inspire heart connection. I honour witnessing the unfolding of life’s journey. I want to continue learning and exploring.

I am a seeker, looking for vitality in my own life and in the lives of others. Osteopathic manual therapy is a map I use in my pursuit.
